Between moving back to Indiana, buying a house, and starting a new job July has been a whirlwind!
This Past July…
You may have noticed that I’ve been absent from my blog space for a while. As it has at tendency to happen, life got in the way and I haven’t been able to dedicate the time to blogging. We’ve had so many changes since my last Month in Review post in March and they’re all so exciting.
Since our nephews sudden passing in November, we’ve wanted to move back to Indianapolis to be closer to family and in April, we found out we were moving back! I started looking for jobs in mid April and after making a few trips from Arkansas up to Indianapolis to interview, I was offered an amazing opportunity at a company in my field. Everything seemed to fall into place so easily after I found a job. We started looking for houses in the neighborhood we use to live in and after a weekend of looking at about 20 houses within two days, we put an offer on a 1920s Arts and Craft style home.
I had to start work about a month before Neal and Dobby were able to move up, so I luckily was able to live with my sister and her husband during that time. The movers in Arkansas packed up our stuff on a Saturday and we all drove back to Indianapolis. Neal and Dobby stayed with Neal’s mom in MI for a few days until we closed on our house on July 31st and we moved in right after close.
Living in our own house is already so exciting. We have been taking walks and exploring our neighborhood after work and I love seeing what is growing in our little vegetable garden in the back yard. Dobby has really taken to the new house too, and has his favorite perch spot on the couch where he can look right out the window.
We’re settling into our new normal and I couldn’t be any happier with how things are going. There are a few major changes we want to do to the house (like renovate the bathroom and kitchen) and I’m looking forward to getting those started! I also can’t wait to decorate the house and really make it feel like “our home.”
Aside from the new job and the new house, we spent July 4th weekend in Detroit to celebrate our friends wedding! Neal grew up with the groom and it’s always so fun being with that group of friends. Congrats David and Julie!!
New on India from Indiana
Even though I haven’t posted any new content in a while, I’ve been making some changes to the site! In April I did an SEO Audit with Casey Markee and he recommended I make some pretty big changes to my blog. Since then I’ve updated my design and am working on the more technical side of blogging. Totally not fun stuff, but needs to be done and I’m excited to incorporate more of his suggestions!
What I Read in July
I finally discovered the app Overdrive!! I can’t believe it took me so long to take advantage of Overdridve considering my love for audiobooks. If you’re not familiar with Overdrive, it connects with your library and you can easily borrow audiobooks or ebooks from your phone. With all the driving I’ve been doing, this has been a lifesaver! Here’s what I’ve read in the past month:
The Shape of Water by Guillermo del Toro – This was an interesting love story, not really my cup of tea but not the worst book in the world either.
The Lady of the Rivers by Philippa Gregory – The first book in the Cousins War series. I love historical fiction and this is no exception!
Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult – I teared up so many times while listening to this book. Picoult is an incredible story teller and I love the three different perspectives in this story. The ending completely caught me off guard. Highly, highly recommend!
Dobby’s July Update
I can’t believe I was away from Dobby for almost the whole month! It was so hard being apart from him and Neal while I was in Indy and they were still in Arkansas. We were both so happy to be reunited though! He had so many full body wiggles, it was just the cutest thing! Here he is perching on Neal when I first got back to Arkansas, looking like a crazy fluff head!
That’s it! I’m keeping it short and sweet this month because there are boxes to be unpacked that are calling my name! I can’t wait to get back to posting regularly. I have lots of new recipes that I can’t wait to share either!
