Long time, no recipe! We’ve been getting to know Dobby and adjusting to life with him! It is a roller coaster ride. He is usually very sweet, and when he is not, he is being a complete menace!
My friend Abby came into town (you can read about her visit in this post). While she was here, we made one of our favorite dips–yogurt ranch dip! I’m obsessed with ranch. It’s a must have when eating pizza, is so good for dipping vegetables, and is a great dip for crackers, chips, and cheetoes (guilty pleasure). I had to create a healthier option and found that full fat plain yogurt was a great base. I love to whip up this traditional yogurt ranch dip while pizza is baking (to dip in) or as a high-protein snack for the week to accompany fresh veggies.
And as if ranch couldn’t get any better, adding fresh lime juice and chopped jalapeños turns the flavor up by about 10 notches into a tangy jalapeño ranch dip! I wish I could take credit for these flavor combinations, but I can’t. In undergrad at Indiana University, one of my close friends mixed sour cream, ranch powder, lime juice, and jalapeños for a Super Bowl party and served it with homemade sourdough pretzels. It was so much fun cooking with her, one of my favorite memories is boiling the pretzels with her! Anyways, I was obsessed with the addicting and tangy ranch dip after that and frequently made it for parties before going to the bar where friends would happily snack away while listening to R. Kelly, Aziz Ansari skits, and Beyonce. Good memories!
While I prefer full-fat plain yogurt, I’ve used full-fat greek yogurt, fat free greek yogurt, and kefir. The taste will vary depending on the base (fat-free tends to have less flavor) but can easily be fixed by increasing the white wine vinegar and salt.
It’s best to let the dip sit in the fridge for about an hour so the flavors can develop, however it isn’t necessary. It will thicken the longer it is in the fridge, but you can thin it out with liquid if desired.
These dips are the best! Let me know what you think in the comments below!
