In honor of not only Cinco de Mayo but also my birthday (on May 2nd, whoops–two days late!!) I am sharing my recipe for margaritas. Dare I call them the world’s best margarita? I dare. This is one tasty drink! The base recipe came from my sister, which calls for 3 parts tequila, 2 parts lime juice, and 1 part triple sec. Before she gave me this recipe, I was clueless and thought the best way to make homemade margaritas was to buy the large bottle of margarita mix from Costco, salt a glass rim, and pour. Oh man I was wrong! These margaritas are so incredibly easy and 10000x better than any pre-made mix.
I’ve deviated from my sister’s recipe by using Patron Citronge (an orange liqueur) and agave syrup instead of triple sec. These take quite a bit of lime juice. If you’re squeezing fresh limes, this is a must. We got ours for our wedding and it’s irreplaceable when juicing limes or lemons. If you’re making a big batch and don’t want to spend tons of time squeezing limes, this lime juice is a good substitute. I keep a bottle of this in the fridge whenever something needs a burst of brightness.
I recently bought these small square ice cube molds, and LOVE them! I didn’t think they would make a difference, but they do. They don’t chip off as you’re shaking drinks and melt more evenly. If you enjoy making drinks at home, I would recommend getting some!
